Nikita, a resident of Barbados, is a profoundly deaf individual who is currently attending evening classes at the Springer Memorial School. In preparation for her CXC exams in 2016, Nikita is receiving invaluable support from Bonnie and Shanell, who provide sign language interpretation and notetaking services to ensure her full participation in all her classes and activities. The generous support of Peter and Jan Boos has facilitated the provision of these services.

Additionally, efforts are being made to seek part-time day employment opportunities for Nikita during her period of studying for her CXCs. She has expressed a keen interest in computers and cooking as potential areas of employment. Deaf Aspirations International is actively collaborating with the Barbados Ministry of Education and The Aspire Foundation (Barbados), founded by Peter Boos, to support other “deaf aspirants” like Nikita in their education and employment pursuits, with the aim of helping them achieve their ambitions.
